The book was created to encourage thoughtful reflection on America’s Semiquincentennial by presenting diverse historical perspectives on the nation’s founding, development, achievements, and continuing challenges, helping readers better understand what 250 years of American history means today.
Congressman Tom Kean Jr.’s America 250 Essay Contest invited students in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District to explore how their own hometowns helped shape the nation’s history, encouraging young people to discover and celebrate the local stories that contributed to America’s founding and 250-year legacy.
