SIPPING THE SOMERSET HILLS: A “VIRTUAL PUB CRAWL” HISTORY AND TASTING
Enjoy a taste of history–coupled with actual tastings of pub and tavern beverages–at a unique “virtual pub crawl” without leaving your seat at our 200 year old tavern! The program highlights the history of the Somerset Hills area and its taverns, samples of historic concoctions and a fun and entertaining look at the social and business aspects of alcohol in the area over the centuries.

UPDATE:
Author Michael Gabriele will be “In the Tavern.”
We are pleased to announce that author Michael Gabriele will be in attendance offering autographed copies of his book Colonial Taverns of New Jersey. Meet Michael and let him tell some of his stories about writing his new book.
Based on the successful similar program held for the Westfield Historical Society, MLH is proud to bring this event to the Somerset Hills area. It fits right in line with our mantra to share history with a social twist. But you must be 21 or older to attend.
Join us as local historians Brooks Betz and Meg Wastie, both of Basking Ridge, have combed through numerous documents and periodicals to provide interesting stories of the area’s people and social practices from colonial times to the present. Each “chapter” visits the social aspects of taverns and inns and their importance to the residents of the time.
Pub Crawl participants will have actual “taste samples” of the time with small samples of drinks from the past: mead, metheglin, flips, toddies and grog.
