About Us – The Mr. Local History Project

The Mr. Local History Project is dedicated to uncovering, preserving, and sharing the stories that define local communities across New Jersey. What began in the Somerset Hills of Somerset County has grown into a broader effort, with research and storytelling that now stretches across the state.

Through original research, storytelling, and community engagement, we bring history to life in a way that is accessible, engaging, and rooted in place. Our work highlights the people, places, and moments that shaped towns like Basking Ridge, Bernardsville, and communities throughout New Jersey. From early taverns and historic homes to forgotten industries and local traditions, we connect the past to the present in a way that resonates today.

Our “social twist” comes from how these stories are shared — through digital platforms, local partnerships, and interactive experiences that invite the community to participate, contribute, and rediscover their own history. We believe history should not sit on a shelf; it should be seen, discussed, and experienced.

We are especially passionate about connecting with educators, tourism professionals, and heritage tourism advocates who share our commitment to bringing local history into the public conversation. We actively engage students through initiatives like our Young Historians and Local History Ambassadors programs, helping the next generation develop a deeper appreciation for the places they call home. At the same time, we value the voices of those who lived that history, and through our Elder Voices program, we create opportunities to listen, learn, and preserve firsthand experiences from our senior community.

In addition to storytelling, we offer a curated selection of historically themed and commemorative items that reflect the subjects we explore. These products are sourced from established manufacturers and made available as part of our broader effort to promote awareness and appreciation of local history.

We welcome the opportunity to connect with individuals, organizations, and communities who share an interest in preserving and promoting local history. If there is a creative way to tell the story — especially one with a social twist — we would love to collaborate, share ideas, and bring history to life together.

The Mr. Local History Project operates independently and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency, commission, or organization unless explicitly stated. Our mission is simple: make history meaningful, local, and alive again.
