UPDATE:
The Mr. Local History Project recently learned that the Sky Farm Historical Society, under Janice Gersky’s direction, is working to digitize its document and photo archives. It might be time to schedule a visit back to the Farm 🙂
Sky Farm Clothing-Optional Club in Basking Ridge, NJ will hold an Open House on Saturday, June 11th from 10-4 (Rain Date June 12th). Sky Farm is a safe, family-friendly environment in which to enjoy nude recreation. Admission for the day is $20 per person and includes lunch. All proceeds will be donated to NJ Sharing Network (www.sharenj.org) and Pancreatic Cancer Research. Pre-registration is required for this event.Visit www.skyfarm.com, or call 908-419-5443 for an admission number.
It’s true. Founded back in 1932 and situated on 38 acres in the Liberty Corner section of Bernards Township, New Jersey, and glad to know that they have a discounted membership for township residents. It’s called a “naturist community for families and couples” (not a nudist colony). They’re members of the prestigious American Association for Nude Recreation.
From the site:
“Enjoy a friendly game of Petanque, Miniten, or Volleyball. The level of activity is up to you. Sky Farm has many organized social activities as well as “Theme Dinners”, game nights, and dances.”
“Enjoy the beautiful heated pool and hot tub, relax on the deck, or lounge on the lawn. Sky Farm members enjoy FREE Wireless Internet access, unlimited FREE ice, and gas barbecue grills among many other amenities.”
Rule #1 –
Remember, textiles – cloths, bathing suits, etc. are discouraged in the pool!
Sky Farm was founded as the American League for Physical Culture after a meeting in New York City in 1929. The founders rented properties in Spring Valley, N.Y., and later in Ironia, N.J., before purchasing the 35-acre Liberty Corner tract in 1932 for $3,440.
Not everyone welcomed the group. A story on the front page of The Bernardsville News on Aug. 4, 1932, said the Rev. William Amos, pastor of the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church, sought to evict “the cult” on “the grounds that it is a menace to the well-being and morals of decent people.”
The membership total has been relatively constant through the years and currently numbers about 280. The ages range from infancy to the late 80s, the most common age being 45 to 55. The cost of membership is $800 per couple per year. Members can come “anytime they want” and use the cottages and a central clubhouse facility with a billiards table, big screen television, fireplace, outdoor heated swimming pool, sauna, and hot tub.
